Student Leader Conference Scholarship Criteria Application for $1000 scholarship to attend 2012 NCCWSL Conference

In 1954, the Midland Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) prepared a booklet entitled, ―Start Now – And You Can Go to College.‖ The purpose of the booklet was to create for prospective college students and their parents an awareness of the broad range of opportunities available for financial assistance and to emphasize the need for early planning.

With the help of area guidance counselors and through the efforts of many AAUW members, the original booklet has evolved into the current Higher Education Loans Plans Scholarships, HELPS, edition which describes scholarships generously provided by many local organizations and is made available to students throughout Midland County. This is the 56th edition of HELPS which is updated annually.

The Midland Branch may award the:
  • AAUW Graduating Senior Woman Scholarship - a $2000 scholarship to a Midland County college bound high school senior pursuing her education full-time toward a baccalaureate degree.  Two awarded in 2011.
  • AAUW Woman in Transition Scholarship - a $2000 scholarship to a Midland County woman who has experienced a delay or interruption in education beyond high school and is working toward a baccalaureate degree and is returning to re-educate herself with a specific career goal in mind.  Two awarded in 2011.
  • National Conference for College Women Student Leaders (NCCWSL).  An award to a Midland-area college woman student leader to attend this annual 3-day conference in the Washington, DC area.  The amount of the award depends on available funds; 2011 award was for $1,000..
