Branch Projects
We engage in mission
related projects and community service. Among our programs and projects of
which we are most proud are our Sister to Sister Summits for middle school girls
and our Transitions Conferences for women considering entering or returning to
college. These projects have earned us Gold Recognition in the national
Association's 21st Century Recognition Project. We also provide two Bay
Scholarships for non traditional female students.
We have also worked
in coalition with area groups to present Candidates' Forums for local, state,
and national elections. Our Children's Theater and Santa Luncheon are community
highlights.
We are all so very busy! Because
we know finding time for activities outside our homes and jobs is difficult,
there is no time commitment in AAUW. Each of us works on a project or program
or two as our time permits. We’ve found that with each of us giving as much
time as we comfortably can, we accomplish good things.

Latest Branch News
The Escanaba Area Branch is focusing on pay equity, making
and distributing “cookies with a bite out of them” to illustrate the pay/gender
gap. They enclose a fact sheet about pay equity and have given the cookies to
area high schoolers. They will be distributing them to college students on
Northern Michigan University’s campus (with the help of the Marquette Branch) on
April 22nd. During April they also presented their annual children’s theatre
plays to area youngsters. One of their winter programs focused on long-term
health care options and they also spent an evening at the movies watching “Iron
–Jawed Angels” (history of the women’s suffrage movement in the U.S.) The May
meeting is geared to a Kentucky Derby theme and they are encouraging members to
bring guests along to enjoy the evening. A June Garden Party is planned as a
recruitment tool. They are proud to be among the branches that increased their
membership this year!
