Diversity Plan

Philosophy:  AAUW of Michigan believes in a diverse membership. 

 

Definition:    Diversity encompasses acceptance and respect and recognizes that each individual is unique. It means there shall be no barriers to full participation on the basis of gender, race, creed, age, sexual orientation, ethnicity, disability or socio-economic status. AAUW of Michigan advocates understanding each other and moving beyond simple tolerance to embracing and celebrating the rich dimensions of diversity contained within each individual.

 

 

Rationale:  Many attitudes, activities and perceptions that hinder diversity are not conscious.  Education leads to awareness and understanding.
